![]() Dean J. Wickel, MD joined Surgical Care Associates in September 2004. He is a native of South Carolina. He is a board certified vascular surgeon. His medical education was obtained at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. He went from there to the University of Louisville where he completed his internship and residency from 1993-1999. His vascular fellowship was completed at the University of Tennessee in Memphis in 2000. Dr. Wickel came to Surgical Care Associates from Brooke Army Medical Center in Ft. Sam Houston, Texas where he completed a four-year enrollment in the army. While at Brooke Army Medical Center, he was Chief of the Department of Vascular Surgery from 2002-2004. Dr. Wickel’s interests include treatment of peripheral vascular occlusive disease, treatment for the prevention of stroke, abdominal aortic aneurysm and varicose veins. His surgical interests include surgery for abdominal aortic aneurysm by traditional and the newer endovascular stent-graft methods, carotid endarterectomy for stroke prevention, peripheral artery bypass procedures and endovascular stents for the treatment of arterial occlusive disease. He also performs varicose vein surgeries using the most recent techniques. Dr. Wickel practices primarily at Baptist East but also has privileges at Norton Suburban and Norton Hospital. He participates with most major insurance carriers including Medicare. |
