Vein Center
Treatment of venous disease covers a broad range of problems. Varicose veins are prevalent in many patients can create pain and inflammation as well as eventual skin breakdown. Additionally, cosmetic concerns for the varicosities are also significant. Treatment of varicose vein disease can be performed in a variety of manners. Spider veins and small blue veins are often treated successfully with sclerotherapy. By using a hypertonic saline solution injected into these small varicosities the vein itself is scarred together without the blood inside it. This effectively makes the spider or blue vein disappear. Larger varicose veins are most often caused by bad valves within the veins themselves and may need to be ligated or stripped surgically.

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) remains a significant problem in both in- and out-patients. These blood clots in the deep vein system can be life threatening in addition to causing swelling and discomfort long-term. Treatment of these DVT’s with anticoagulation and compression therapy is most often successful. If for some reason anticoagulation fails, a filter device may be placed percutaneously in the large vein known as the inferior vena cava. Once again, compression therapy is effective for all forms of venous disease.
